Satsuma Wagyu is a brand of Wagyu cattle raised in the Minami Satsuma Valley in Kagoshima, Japan by a group of 12 Master Wagyu Farmers. Through joint research with Rice Farmers, they have cultivated the best rice to grow that is most nutritious for the cattle. Unlike other A5 Wagyu brands, Satsuma is grain-fed for over 650 days and raised in a comfortable family farm environment without additional growth hormones or implants.
Satsuma Wagyu is known for having a meatier taste and being very similar to the standard Kagoshima Wagyu. Although both types of Wagyu have subtle differences in taste, the biggest difference lies in the diet of the cattle.
On average only 3,000 cattle annually qualify for the name Satsuma Wagyu.
